Going to go spend a few days with my parents, God I can use some peace and quiet.

You know I have real issues with cocky people who think they can walk all over me. The fun begins though when I decide to put said lower life forms in their place.

Going to go see my family for a couple of days starting tomorrow. That is a good thing.

Still have not heard from Jay – getting really concerned. That is a bad thing.

Have to wonder about some of the people I work with and how they manage to survive even just day to day life. It can be pretty frustrating to come in to handle server moves and reconfigurations for the evening and find out that the people that are supposed to have everything prepped and are backing you up have done bloody nothing all day. Now I have to hump it to get everything ready while they coasted all day.

I already know I have a lot waiting for me today, I just have to wonder if my opposite numbers can do their jobs and get the stuff ready for us.

Mike was feeling really bad last night, will have to try and find out what is wrong.

Still no word from Jay since his last call Wednesday night. No way to contact him and I am getting concerned for him.

Cooking dinner on the grill tonight….boy will my neighbors hate me. They have told me that when I am grilling, they get hungrier. ::snicker::

Idle hands . . .

Jay is still delayed, hope to hear from him soon.

Not much to take care of tonight, but have lots of catch up stuff to take care of.

Events have conspired to delay Jay. He may be arriving this afternoon/evening.

And I have so much to do tonight it isn’t even remotely funny.

Finally left the Data Center at 0800 – Got to the Build Center at 0830 – worked until 1500 – Broke my glasses. ::SNARL::

Good thing though that the people at the Eye Masters are so good at what they do . . . They fixed my frames for free and were VERY polite to a tired and grumpy person. (Namely me)

Crazy, Crazy

Got a TON of stuff to get done tonight.

Match.com will be the death of me yet.

AND I have to run over to the build center tomorrow morning to help out there.

Oh well, I knew this was the type of job that meant no life . . .

Busy Week!

Looks like Tina and I won’t go to Six Flags on Saturday, she has to be out of town. But we may hit the parade on Sunday. I hope so, I don’t like to go to things like that by myself.

Seems pretty quiet today. I could use some peace and quiet to recover in.

Ack – Pfffffft!

Training went well, not really ready for another marathon week – if I am lucky the rest of this week will be nice and quiet.

Beth may want to whack me upside the head when she sees what I got Brian for Rosh Hashanah. But I have a goodie for her that just might defuse her.

I get to see Tina tonight for bowling and we need to make plans for Saturday’s trip to Six Flags. (As much as I dislike people in general, this may be interesting)

Not much else to say. Logging off for now.

No More Please . . .

Bad but not on the same level as the WTC catastrophe, a barge hit the bridge, THE ONLY BRIDGE, that connects Texas to South Padre Island. An 80 foot span of the bridge collapsed and four people who were in cars going across the two and a half mile span at the time were killed.

This was not the work of terrorists, this was simply bad luck, but dammit, I am tired of all of this.

I would like to hear some good news for a change.

. . .

On a lighter note (I guess) I did bowl well tonight.

I Just Don't Know . . .

Friend of mine told me I had best put some background to this statement.

Last year I left Microsoft after six years to come to this company. I had hit the point at MSFT where I had to either pack up and move to Washington, or go into management. I am not the management type and my family and friends are (mostly) here in Texas. So after a LOT of thought and soul-searching, I made my decision.

Since then there have been good times and bad times. I went through a bad time when my grandmother died suddenly. My co-workers helped keep me sane and my boss arranged for me to have a week off with pay to help my family, when the employee handbook only allowed two days for family leave in situations like that.

Then times got really hard company. A lot of people got laid off – including me, but while Verizion was talking to me about a position, Data Return called me and asked me if I wanted to come back. I did. I have a LOT invested in this company, not just financially, but in sweat, blood, and tears too. And as a result, I don’t have the best opinion of people who don’t try.

Major Frustration

Yes I know with the economic slowdown things are tough all over.

Hell, we have been hurt ourselves.

We even had to offer a voluntary separation package a month ago to anyone who would take it to lower costs.

But I stuck it out.

Some of the people I work with on the opposite times are shall we say bloody negative. I HATE it when I come into work to hear people saying how the company is doomed and we will all be out of work soon.

You know what? If you thought so little of the company’s chances, WHY DIDN’T you take the FRIGGING package and get the HELL out?

Attitudes like that *will* hurt the company.

Anyway things like that really get under my skin. I view myself as a professional pessimist – you just about have to be to be a Systems Engineer. I have to look at things and try to second guess what could go wrong and how we can prevent it. I don’t need extra negativity in my life.

Oh boy . . .

Things are wild here.

We are going to loose Augie off of my team, we have a business need to share him with the Build Center *and* the Scalability Lab – in some ways I don’t envy him . . . his life will become a living hell with three different teams pulling him in different directions.

The other part of that is we will have to get someone to replace Augie. And there is a 50/50 chance for either Kendrick or Robert. I know which one I want – Robert is just a kid but he busts his butt working and is very good. Kendrick is a nice guy but does NOT work hard and does it half-assed. I do NOT need to have to pick up after other people when my plate is quite full at this point.

Boy did J.R. get an earfull with that.
