Well, I got back the results from my personality test we did at work.

Are you really that interested?

They are all mad, quite mad.

Driving in to work this evening was quite the event.

I saw six police cars heading north on I-35 going flat out with sirens and lights. (The nasty part of my brain wants to know if there was an accident with a krispy kreme truck)

Heading southbound though, I think we had every brain donor loose. Weaving in and out of traffic, passing me (I was doing about 60) and then after they would get in front of several cars then slow down to about 45 and generally aggrivating me.

And people want to know why I would want to move closer in to town. As much as I dislike crouds of people, I dislike heavy traffic more.

Not fair!

After the tempest yesterday, things have turned so pleasant.

It hit 70 degrees F (21 degrees C for the rest of the world) last night and I had to work all night.

Now after driving home it is only 75 (24) and they are expecting a hight of only 92 (33)

With some cloudcover to take the edge off of the sunlight. This would be a great day . . . and I am worn out and have to work tonight so I have to sleep through it!

There ain’t no justice.

Why are there so many really ugly houses?

I keep looking at places and what I find more often than not is that someone has taken a really beautiful house, surrounded by 20 to 30 year old trees, bulldozed the property, and erected a cookie-cutter box in it’s place.

Coolness!

Well it looks like I can kill one of my side projects that I was making no progress on. A LiveJournal client for the PocketPC.

The real difference between what I was trying to do and this one is that I had not thought to use the built-in capabilities of the Avant-Go client. Of course not! I wanted to re-invent the wheel! Sometimes I really wonder where my brain is.

Needless to say, I am doing this entry on my handheld and in the future I will be able to put my thoughts and impressions down immediately instead of trying to remember to enter them when I get home.

Well, let’s see what the world has for me today.

And it just gets worse from there. . .

Decided to take one more test while I had some tea brewing before I enacted my will upon this poor innocent server (heh, heh, heh) and this is what I got.

You are 71% geek
You are a geek. Good for you! Considering the endless complexity of the universe, as well as whatever discipline you happen to be most interested in, you’ll never be bored as long as you have a good book store, a net connection, and thousands of dollars worth of expensive equipment. Assuming you’re a technical geek, you’ll be able to afford it, too. If you’re not a technical geek, you’re geek enough to mate with a technical geek and thereby get the needed dough. Dating tip: Don’t date a geek of the same persuasion as you. You’ll constantly try to out-geek the other.

I Am A: Chaotic Good Elven Ranger Mage

Alignment:
Chaotic Good characters are independent types with a strong belief in the value of goodness. They have little use for governments and other forces of order, and will generally do their own things, without heed to such groups.

Race:
Elves are the eldest of all races, although they are generally a bit smaller than humans. They are generally well-cultured, artistic, easy-going, and because of their long lives, unconcerned with day-to-day activities that other races frequently concern themselves with. Elves are, effectively, immortal, although they can be killed. After a thousand years or so, they simply pass on to the next plane of existance.

Primary Class:
Rangers are the defenders of nature and the elements. They are in tune with the Earth, and work to keep it safe and healthy.

Secondary Class:
Mages harness the magical energies for their own use. Spells, spell books, and long hours in the library are their loves. While often not physically strong, their mental talents can make up for this.

Deity:
Solonor Thelandria is the Chaotic Good elven god of archery and the hunt. He is also known as the Keen Eye, the Great Archer, and the Forest Hunter. His followers respect nature, and only hunt when needed, but are quick to defend the forest from intruders. Their favorite weapon is the bow, and they tend to be extremely talented with it. Solonor Thelandria’s symbol is an arrow with green fletchings.

Well, the house hunt is progressing . . . very, very slowly.

Since this is something where I can’t just up and decide to move when my lease is up, simply because I am not happy there (or at least as easally) I am putting extra care and detail into this search.

And in the process I think I am going to drive my friends crazy. Hell, my current lease is not up until May of 2003 but the search has already been moved into gear. Researching neighborhoods, crime statistics, etcetera.

I remember what it was like with my parents, never could understand why they put so much work into it. Now I do.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should look?

Snicker!

Well, the Sunday S*P made me laugh so hard I scared the cats.

Had to then spend several minutes doing make up petting (see I am pussy whipped too).

Well, did a bad thing last night and got Mike and Angie hooked on Slayers. <% set expression = "Evil grin with a low chuckle" %> Bad, bad David! <% set expression = nothing %>

Going to go eat real gumbo for lunch and watch a movie, then do some more house hunting. I really need to find a place soon, want to get everything out of storage.

In two weeks going to spend my birthday with Dad and the Widow Snyder. Still not sure what to call her. Hopefully I can come up with something before I go. I mean she is not my mother but it feels wrong to address her in the formal mode if she and my father are dating.

Just looked at my posting and realized how random my thoughts are right now. Hopefully order will come from chaos later.

Had lots of fun. . .

nata5 and I definately had fun this evening.

We ate hamburgers, drank Guinness and watched Better Than Chocolate

You know I wish I could see the look on jendra’s face when Derek tells her what we did. “They watched a lesbian movie?” But it is a really funny and easy to watch movie. (Plus I know that Derek likes red headed lesbians).

All in all it was fun to bs, and just spend time together. We really don’t get to do that much and soon we won’t be able to do it at all since he will be part way across the country.

I am hoping that it all works out for them. They do make a good couple and I enjoy getting to see eye to eye with Marsha.

Just how stupid do they think I am?

Currently a Systems Engineer for a managed hosting company based in the midwest.

He spends time in the Data Centers, building servers, bowling, role-playing, relaxing with his friends, and even still working in theatre when he can get the chance.

He does site design and programming from time to time, and is a deft hand at network design.

He also enjoys the cinema, and is a fan of both webcomics and anime.

Strengths: Creative, able to restrain himself from visiting grief, pain and trouble on those who dearly need it. Dedicated to family and friends, he is good to have on your team.
Weaknesses: Fairly cynical, a short temper when faced with blatant stupidity. Can be rather blunt at times. Easally annoyed by people he views as wasting his limited time.
Special Skills: Able to resurrect servers with a pat and a kind word to the processor. Prone to work for days without sleep if necessary, and able to recharge with a 15 minute cat-nap.
Weapons: Acid tongue and rapier wit. ACME Anvils. Proficient in both broadsword and rapier. He is also a dead shot with a paintball gun.
Background: First spotted online in 1989 when he took a Fortran programming class while majoring in pre-med at the University of Texas. Abruptly changed his major his senior year to Tech Theatre and worked professionally for several years.

Somehow ended up in the tech industry (had minored in english, but always had a gift with computers) and worked for Microsoft as a Systems Engineer for six years before moving on to the managed hosting world.

Was talking with my boss this morning and he told me that while he couldn’t promise me anything he was going to try to get the powers that be to give me a raise. Something about that I do too much and work hell hours not to be paid more.

I am a happy person today.

Wingstop Atomic Wings are EVIL

Travis picked up some wings from Wingstop last night. I knew he likes the “hot wings”, so I was a little unsure when he offered me some. I didn’t realize he had picked up an order of Atomic wings.

I grew up eating hot foods, don’t get me wrong, I like spicy foods, but with these all you taste is the heat. And they actually gave me some heartburn – I was not used to that.

But I survived. (I will have my revenge though! Mwahahaha!)

The Oracle server went well.

Got to get ready for “guy’s night out” tonight.

I am a happy person today.

Not much today. . .

Getting ready to hit an Oracle cluster over the head and perform a systmer level upgrade.

I guess that it is a compliment to me that I was just automatically tagged for this but I get tired of being the go-to guy all of the time.

Guess it could be worse though.

As a side note, I may actually get to become a daywalker soon.

One of the guys who works during the day is suddenly expressing a desire to work at nights. May trade with him on one condition. I get to keep my shift-diff. I have not gotten a raise in two years “because the company can’t afford to give anyone a raise” (Yeah, but the CEO can give himself a $400,000 bonus this last year after laying off one third of the company). So I will go to days if I can keep my shift diff. We will see if they really want me on dayside that bad.

Posting frenzy!

Got up and found I had a lot of posts to reply to. Happy fun time as a result. Though I am beginning to feel that I need to almost schedule time for the journal nowadays.

Not much else for today.

Heard from jhim – Having gone through what he is going through now, my heart is out to you man. The only difference is that I had been in the first layoff and had the powers that be realize that they had made a mistake and called me back. Wasn’t touched by the second or third layoffs but had to see several good friends leave. Never a good thing and even worse when you have to pick up all the pieces and continue on with no real time for mourning.

Well, Derek nata5 and I are going to spend Friday evening drinking beer and watching bad movies. That should be fun, it has been too long since he and I have just had time to relax, chat, and bs. Glad I can keep him company until he moves to join Marsha jendra. They really are a sweet couple and I know they will go far.

Talked to Adam today, his birthday went well, wish I could have been there but events have happened to stop that. Well, we will see what happens in the future.

Mike and Jeff want to bowl with me on Sundays. Going to have to schedule some time for us to practice a little.

Something Positive is really taking off! Hats off to Randy kobold on good work but get some rest dude!

I may have more to say later. I think that I wll post again today/tonight.

Well . . .

I survived the weekend.

The house in Waco is completely emptied, and I have closed a chapter on my life. I did discover that I do not like driving big trucks.

Now starting the house hunting in earnest. What was comfortable before is now very cramped.

Also, my father told me that most likely that he and the widow Snyder would be getting married in the spring. I am of mixed feelings about this. On one side, no one can ever take my mother’s place, and I want to resent anyone for trying. But at the same time, she is helping my father grieve and making him feel better, and after the torture he has been through this year I am so happy to see him happy. And she has been nothing but kind to me also. I don’t know how I feel anymore. And to make it even more fun, she has invited me over to her lakehouse for my birthday and asked me to bring some friends. I want to find where the “David’s life must stay complicated” clause is in my contract.

Talked to Derek this weekend also, he wants to have a “guy’s night out” this Saturday. I’m going to ping him today and see if that is still the case or if that was just him missing Marsha. No pressure, no worries. But damn am I going to miss him when he moves. We don’t really get to spend that much time together but it is fun to be able to speak with someone who is fast enough mentally to keep me hopping and not only that, but I can totally let my hair down and just be me. Don’t have to worry about how anyone may take what I say or if they might get offended.

That is not to say that I stay tense the rest of the time, but one of my professors in college used to tell me that he could almost see me processing everything I would say before I said it, and that I should try to just let it flow. For some reason Derek is one of the few people I can totally relax with and just let it flow.

I think I will ping Jhim also this week and see how he is doing as I have not seen much activity from that end of the world. Hopefully good things have just kept him too busy.

Thankfully things are about as stable as they get at work. One more complication and I will curl up in a ball and start sucking my thumb.
