The time has come.

I am going home. (For a while at least)

I really enjoyed the posting storm today, and getting to chat with marinebear – I am glad I am getting to know you better. You are a really nice guy.

Have a good and relaxing day valkyrwench may your afternoon be relaxing and may the fools turn their ankles so you may know them by their limping.

Will be on and offline as time permits this afternoon.

Be gentle to gramalkin people. And Gray – if you have to slap some idiots upside the head, give them an extra smack for me.

Welcome to gramalkin!

Well, I actually have gotten a friend of mine to get a livejournal account.

He is ex-military and a good friend, yet another computer person, and can even put up with my rather strange sense of humor.

His site is http://www.gray-cat.com/ and call him Gray.

So every one say Hi to him and make him welcome to our wonderful addiction.

Quiz whore . . .

Well, when I got off work yesterday, I was exhausted. So tired, in fact, that I talked myself into skipping the gym. I told myself that I would go when I got up in the afternoon.

Well, I slept funny and managed to roll over on my arm and pull a muscle in my upper back. And it HURT! So much for the gym then.

Background note: I used to be very much into some sports, played locally competitive racquetball, hiking, backpacking, bowling, bicycling, etc. Then one day when I was riding my bike on the way home a woman ran a stop sign and hit me broadside going about 40 mph. My bike went under her car, I landed on the hood (otherwise I wouldn’t be telling about this). But then she slammed on the brakes and I flew across the intersection and landed on my back, with a backpack full of books. The humorous part is I was lying there waiting for the ambulance to arrive and mentally cataloging my injuries. (That was the pre-med in me) Well, when I got to the hospital, one of the interns called up to my mother’s lab in Pediatric Hematology and told her that her son was in the ER and had been hit by a car. She made a new school speed record going down three floors and across two buildings. To make a long story short, I was laid up for several months and was not allowed to do much of anything for some time after that (lots of damage to the bones and cartilage in my spinal column). Now one thing to take into account with that. I have as one doctor put it, a world record metabolism. It was never a problem until I was laid up but then we discovered that all I have to do to gain weight is look at food. So began a long running battle.

Finally the doctor gave me permission to start working out, etc a while back. I immediately laid myself up again by overdoing it the first time (of all people you would think I would know better but even I get vain from time to time). So, I am back to working out and trying to get back into the shape I had several years back. The first four years seemed to be a loosing battle (working nights hasn’t helped as my job is a desk job and I sleep when most people are up doing things) but as of late I have suddenly started making progress and have been feeling stoked about it.

I promise though, I will not turn into a gym bunny. But at the same time I do want to get back into shape and wear some of my old clothes again.

Now the question is, should I go back to the gym after I wake up and make up the one workout that I missed?

Everything was going swimmingly last night……

I had made a great dinner and got to enjoy it at my desk without interruption.

Everything was going well, until we have a sudden hardware failure in the “A” side of our core.

Working with NetOps, we try everything but to no avail.

So here it is at almost 0700 and I am heading home after placing an order with Cisco for replacement parts. Until they can get us the parts we are running on half of the hardware as normal. And I don’t like it when we do not have redundancy.

Grumble, grumble. Hopefully it will all be fixed by the time I wake up this afternoon.

Good weekend all told.

Making a cut in case you are not interested in how mundane my life truly is.

The strange thing is that I love my job.

Well, got up at 6:30 yesterday evening, was at the office by 8:00 and worked all night.

Now here I am back in NetBackup meetings and working on hammering out the protocol for network based backups.

I should probably make it to home by about 1:00 this afternoon.

Oh man is this going to be a LONG day . . .

Had a great talk with valkyrwench. She is really sweet and knows what to say to make you feel better.

Nice to be able to chat and joke.

Question though? What is going on with the fact that most of the people I seem to talk to the most are women? If I didn’t know better, I would think I was straight.

Also got to chat with miktar last night. Haven’t gotten to do that in some time but our schedules are kind of synched at the moment. (He lives in South Africa so our night is his day). I worry for him at times, but he is a really sweet guy who deserves a lot more.

Got to work about forty five minutes early today (valkyrwench‘s fault – she put me in a very good mood and I was really on the bounce). Only to find out that I am needed for some meetings today (Thursday) and will be actually in the office until about one in the afternoon. Not too bad until you take into account that with me working nights right now, I get up at three in the afternoon! I am going to be a cranky cuss today.

Not really tired yet. Though I will probably be later on today, hopefully I can hang on to the tired long enough to get home and get into bed for a short nap before coming back into the office at nine. I would take a personal day but Travis is doing the same thing as I am today and so between needing to tough it out due to vanity and the fact that I just have too much to get done….well, lets just say that I am going to be in a mood tonight.

Got some plans that I will be implementing at work to streamline my work. Hopefully I can use all of this to get management to agree to a raise soon. Heh – that would be nice but I know that our corporate beancounters would have a fit.

And as for Project Phoenix: The plan is coming together in my head. I am going to have it written out by this weekend.

One quick fun link for the day

Bad Physics in Movies

Friend of mine at work sent me this. Got it is a riot and way too true.

Well, I am two hours and five minutes late leaving for home. But I am going now.

Phoenix: Still working out the details for the plan but I have ideas.

Well, now what

I just realized that it took me three hours to write my previous post.

One good thing about keeping a journal like this as opposed to a hidden totally private journal on my computer is that when I make a pledge to myself on this journal, I have to stick with it.

If this was a journal that no one else could possibly read, then I would be able to talk myself out of it. But in this kind of environment that is not possible. Part of me wants to go back and edit that entry or delete it altogether. But that is the coward’s way out.

I will stick with it and we will see where it goes from here.

Been sitting here and thinking. . .
