What an interesting way to start your morning

Since I have to be at work at 7, I normally get up at about 5.

Well, this morning, I got up at 3.

I woke up, finding that my legs were hanging off the edge of the bed from the knee down. I grumbled, shoved the cat back towards the middle of the bed, and pulled my legs back onto the bed.

And then it happened.

There was a strange sound coming from the middle of the bed: *huh-glak*

I opened one eye, “Banzai, you had best not be planning on doing what I think you are about to do.”

And then the sound came again, but louder: *huruh-glack*

I sat up in the bed. “Oh no…..”

And Banzai pulled an exorcist right in the middle of the bed. Only in stead of pea soup, she was hurling hairballs and partially processed cat food. Lots of it.

So you can guess how my day started.

Looking on ebay to find a rocket to put a cat into orbit.

Oh My G*d

It’s an easy $75.00 dollars they said……

Riiiiiiiight.

The actual work was 10 minutes. Educating the effing customer has taken the better part of a day.

This damn web designer/programmer/consultant/advertising mook is sapping IQ points from me at a rate of about 20 per second.

Classic points (note that this customer’s site is running on a Windows Server 2003, and was upgraded from Windows Server 2000 six months ago)

I was engaged to install ISAPI_Rewrite for the customer (even though they have Admin level access to their server). (All quotes are from the mook who has been draining my intelligence faster than a half starved mind flayer.

  • I didn’t make any server changes…I’m a unix novice. (This customer’s site has been hosted on IIS and windows for the past six years)
  • I moved the file to %webroot%/search and now it doesn’t work anymore! (This is after I just spent 30 minutes reading the install doccos to the customer to pound into his head that the config file for the application must live in the root of the website)
  • I keep making changes to %webroot%/search but they aren’t taking! (This is after yet another 30 minutes of remedial coaching with the customer)
  • This is pretty hard, I’m a Mac user. (At that point I had to bite my tongue – I have a Mac, and this mook is taking Mac User back to a perjorative)

Finally I TSed to the server, took over his session and fixed it myself – some people have no business being set loose on computers.

You know what the sad part is? This guy is probably making twice to three times what I make – and I am the one enabling him to keep his cushy job.

Yes I am alive
